Hospital Cave (Hang Quân Y) is located in Cat Ba National Park, which is a field hospital during the Vietnam – American war. With the help of China, it was built as a bomb-proof hideout as well as a hospital for Vietnam Soldiers. It took 2 years to complete then the hospital was used until 1975. This shelter was equipped with the availability of fresh water and ventilation shafts, and there are even escape tunnels ready for the event of a quick exit.
Hospital Cave was abandoned in 1975 when the Vietnam War has come to an end. Nowadays, the cave has become a popular attraction on Cat Ba Island for both overnight on land passengers or tourists on Lan Ha Bay cruises. Although the rooms are now empty, it’s possible to see how the Hospital was once set up. It includes doctors’ offices, several recovery rooms, and a huge natural cavern that was used as a cinema room.
